The Chichester College/ExOD Initial Assessment & Diagnostic System

        Links

The Chichester College/ExOD Initial Assessment and Diagnostic System (IADS) is designed to provide, in a single application, the ability to assess students in the following areas:

  • Application of Numbers from entry level 1 through to Key Skill level 3
  • Communications: from entry level 1 through to Key Skill level 3
  • Information Communication & Technology: from Key Skill level 1 and level 2

The output is an initial assessment of a student’s capability which is designed to form the basis of further discussion and review between the student and their Personal Tutor. The diagnostic element compares the answer with its related topic in order that an individual learning plan can be prepared for each student.

Benefits: The availability of a easy-to-use student assessment system provides tutors with additional quantitative feedback on an individuals capabilities and potential weaknesses in three key learning areas. This system enhances, not replaces, a tutors ability to quickly identify student ability and to provide timely guidance and support in areas of potential weakness. The ability to undertake ad-hoc assessments as training progresses enables the tutor to understand the students rate of improvement and to focus on areas of ongoing problem.

The Chichester College/ExOD Initial Assessment System is:

  • Mapped to the Basic Skills curriculum
  • Designed so that the screen lay-out is similar to the National Test lay-out
  • Organised so that the sorting criteria produce reports which can assist with early identification of Students who may have specific learning difficulties
  • Designed to produce reports which allow Tutors to view results of groups of students at a glance

Support: support is available by telephone from a dedicated team of professionals between the hours of 8:00am and 6:30 pm.

Updates: periodic updates to the questions, answers and system operation will be issued and are included in the annual licence cost. Updates will typically be issued on a CD for self-installation by your IT staff on the server.

Networked implementation:
The system is normally installed by ExOD on one of your local servers under the support of your IT staff. The number of active client computers is limited only by the network constraints imposed by those IT professionals.

Tools are available for managing:

  • High volumes of data
  • Automated installation of client software from the server
  • Automatic update of assessment results to the server
  • Bulk download of candidates onto the server
  • Data output
  • Data Analysis

Minimum Equipment: Server and network. The server should have at least 256Mb of RAM and must use Windows 2000 (server) as the operating system. Each client computer must be using Windows 98 (or later) as the operating system and should have at least 64Mb of RAM and 10 Mb of free space on the hard disk.

Installation: Installation is undertaken by our professionals on your site. It is critical that your IT professionals are available to ensure that the installation meets your network security needs. The installation can be tailored to your specific internal processes / systems (e.g. student registration details, tutors, courses etc.)

Training: The system is simple to use and full training will be given to your academic & tutoring staff on the use and navigation of IADS along with recommendations on invigilation procedures. Additionally, tutors who use the output of IADS to assess student capability will be given training in the use and interpretation of the outputs from IADS. This training is provided by Chichester College on your campus at a mutually convenient date.
